Dunbar Residence

What was asked of us

The client asked us to develop a garden design that provided privacy. The backyard was to be used more functionally with an area for the kids to play, a deck with built-in BBQ, and seating for 6. The front yard was to be the entertaining space where the homeowners could have friends over for an evening of drinks and appetizers.

The obstacles

The City of Vancouver were initially unhappy with the size of the water feature drawn up for the garden. We created a rill which is a long thin water feature that turns and has various stages of water falls. The idea originates over a thousand years ago in Persia when they would move water through a building as a way to cool down the environment, bring in fresh drinking water and water plants inside their home.

The final product

The final product has yet to be photographed but this unique landscape is unlike any other with a 120 linear foot wrap-around water feature, mature plantings and recatinear linear firepit. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to design this smaller private garden. Stay tuned for the after shots.
