Edgemont Residence

What was asked of us

We were asked to design and complete a renovation of the backyard and entranceway of the property including a new driveway, steps to the front door, and new garden beds. The client was from England and therefore wanted a design which reflected the English style.

The obstacles

The cinder block wall in the back yard was starting to fail. We needed to take it down, rebuild it and install a new fence on top. Drainage was a bit of an issue as the backyard property was a low point for all three surrounding properties.

The final product

We installed a wider cobble driveway, with stone steps to the front door. The front lawn was kept intact and so were a few of their garden beds that needed only an adjustment here and there.

With some repetition planting and a wider path we made our way to the backyard where a courtyard patio was installed with a water feature. The lawn was bordered with the same cobble from the driveway and clipped boxwood to provide an ‘English stately’ look. The tool shed was moved behind the house where we developed concrete paver patio for potting up and cleaning of his tools.

This is a good example of a simple renovation that can bring a man comfort in a space that is reminiscent of his homeland.
